DESIGN & ILLUSTRATION ADDS ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) STUDIO ART TO CURRICULUM

Design & Illustration Students Critique Self Portraits

Design & Illustration teachers Jonathan Taylor and Colleen Murphy are pleased to offer students the possibility of taking Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art in conjunction with their regular Design & Illustration course work. By adding AP Studio Art to their course of study and earning a 3 (out of 5) or higher on the College Board exam, students will be able to earn up to 9 college credits. As importantly, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their excellence and seriousness about studying art to colleges, universities and art schools.
Unlike other AP courses, Studio Art has no paper and pencil exam. Instead students will assemble a large portfolio that demonstrates their excellence in one of three areas: Drawing, 2D Design, or 3D Design. Each year that a Design and Illustration student chooses to add AP Studio Art to their studies at BTC, it will be noted on their transcript and they will submit their portfolio (the AP Studio Art exam) to be evaluated for college credit. It is a rigorous and worthwhile endeavor that BTC is proud to offer its students.
