Automotive Science and Technology Students Donna and Sam
Donna London, and Sam Dayman recently attended the annual Women Can Do Conference at Vermont Technical College. Donna and Sam are nontraditional students enrolled in Automotive Science and Technology. Each year the Northern New England Tradeswomen plan and implement a conference for girls in high school to introduce them to careers in fields that are nontraditional for their gender. The young women take part in workshops focusing on areas such as law, fire fighting, heavy equipment operation, forest service work, architecture, agriculture, welding, computer animation and more. Each girl had the opportunity to attend three workshops of their choice. Between excellent instructors and VTC’s outstanding facilities the day was a huge success. There were over 350 young women in attendance from around Vermont. Donna and Sam both enjoyed their workshops but agreed they were very happy with their choice to enroll in Automotive Science and Technology at BTC. They feel that they are learning a great deal from their teacher, Bob Church, and appreciate applying their math and physics with a hands-on approach to education. Both young women plan to continue their educations at four year colleges.
