BTC AUTO BODY STUDENTS ARE WINNERS

VICA Winner Elvin Smailagic

Auto Body student Elvin Smailagic brought home the gold by winning the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) Skills USA state competition. On March 9, 2002 Auto Body students from across Vermont gathered at the Hartford Area Career Center to show what they could do. Each competitor was judged on the basis of a written test and practical applications of auto body work including welding. Elvin won from $3000 to $11,000 in scholarships and Snap-on tools and he will compete in the national competition in Kansas City in June. Other BTC participants included Amanda Corbiere who finished fifth and won partial scholarships and Nick Cota who finished seventh.

Culinary/Professional Foods students also competed at the Inn at Essex and are awaiting the results. Aviation Technology students will also be competing in VICA competitions at Continental.
