BUILD AN AIRPLANE?

Aviation Students Work on Wing Structure

What was in the mysterious huge box that arrived for the Aviation Technology class this year? A peak inside lets you see that it is a kit plane! Yes, very much like the model planes that you probably have built in your room with one very big difference. This is an actual “airplane”! Students will transform the pieces they have received into an airworthy airplane in two years. In the process of building the plane students will be exposed to aircraft structures; flight controls; landing gear; wheel brakes; materials such as plastics, fiber glass, wood and sheet metal; welding; cleaning and corrosion control; and much more. Students in the post-secondary program, the “thirteenth year” have just completed the overhaul of the engine that will power this airplane and have already test run it.

This is a first for the Aviation Technology program to build a Kitfox 7. The kit is supplied by the Skystar Corporation. We will have quarterly updates and pictures of our progress.
